LEADERSHIP BY EXAMPLE

I believe in accountability and character. The top law enforcement officer should be held to the highest standards.  Public trust is earned, and to be the District Attorney you must have the trust of the victims, juries, and the public.  There cannot be even a perception of a double standard.  A District Attorney must always put forth the highest effort to be above reproach and believe in the things he’s holding others accountable for. "Character is what you do when you think nobody is watching.”   This is an anonymous quote that pretty well expresses my  philosophy on the subject.

I have great concerns about the budget and spending at the DA’s office.  I am very concerned about the increasing homicide rate in Colorado Springs when statewide the rate is declining.   I am concerned that murder trials are decreasing in number with those going to trial having less than satisfactory results. In 2004, the office tried 13 murder cases.  In the next three years, they tried a total of 16.  This is huge increase in plea-bargaining murder cases.  One-third of those trials resulted in either mistrials or not-guilty verdicts. I am concerned about the extremely low morale in the office, office politicking, and the massive turnover the office has, and continues to have.  I am concerned that many of the best, brightest, and most experienced attorneys have left the office.

Will Bain and David Webster, prosecutors in charge of Felony Divisions under the current administration who have left the office, support Dan and have chosen to be his campaign Co-Chairmen.  “My departure had absolutely nothing to do with money…and the morale there [at the office] was as low as it had ever been,” says Bain.

I am a conservative Republican. If you are looking for accountability, character and a choice, I would be honored to have your support.
